Inkazuela Cusco, Peru Restaurant Review

If you’re looking for a cozy meal in Cusco then this is the place for you! The menu here consists mainly of freshly made stews (the menu can be viewed here) that come served in beautiful earthenware to keep it nice and hot. The stew itself is served alongside fresh individual baguettes that are simply out of this world.

When dining here in May 2019, they had the rustic wood fire burning in the corner, as this is the beginning of their winter, giving the whole space a welcoming and homey aesthetic. Lighting during dinner is dim and alongside the fire it makes for a romantic and intimate dining experience. Although my time here wasn’t of the romantic sort, as I was on a group travel tour, the overall dining experience was very welcoming and relaxing after a long day of exploring.

For my meal, I ordered the Caribbean Coconut Curry Chicken stew.  This was the dish that I never knew I wanted in my life, and everything I have wanted since. The aromatic flavors of the curry and ginger that were in the stew made for an out of this world flavor profile and combined with a nice level of spice and a sweetness from the coconut, I was in heaven. The chicken in the stew was oh so perfectly cooked. Other foods that were in it of course included a few types of Peruvian potatoes, as they are famous for them, carrots, peppers, and onions. Like I mentioned early, the stews come served with individual baguettes that are the perfect tasty side for the meal. When I say “individual” I do not mean small, the baguettes are plenty big to fill up even the hungriest guest, but, if you want more do not hesitate to ask the servers are more than happy to bring you more. A quick side note for the chicken stew, the dish was definitely very spicy so for those that do not take spice well, I would recommend ordering something else. You cannot go wrong with any other dish on the menu as everyone in my group of nine all thoroughly enjoyed what they ordered.

I am not exaggerating when I say that I have been craving this meal ever since dining here and have tried, multiple times, to recreate it at home. I won’t say I have failed in the recreation, but I certainly have not even gotten close to the magic that they served me. Hopefully one day, I will have the pleasure of returning to Cusco and am able to dine at Inkazuela again. Until then, I will keep trying to recreate their masterpiece!

I would highly recommend Inkazuela to any travelers visiting Cusco. Let me know down in the comments if you happen to visit!
